Job Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Manager of Transportation Planning, this position is
responsible to promote sustainable transportation, i.e. a range of mobility choices other than
single occupancy vehicles such as cycling, walking, riding on transit, carpooling, ride- / carsharing)
through planning, coordination with design and construction, and partnerships. The
key objective is to plan/execute projects and programs that will have measurable output and
outcome in increasing the use of sustainable transportation for commuting purposes, thereby
reducing traffic congestion and achieving the associated environmental, health, economy
benefits.


Specific duties will include:
 Lead, coordinate and/or support infrastructure-related and promotional-related initiatives
on sustainable transportation, such as research best practices, coordinate data
collection, identify infrastructure/programming needs, develop plans/policies, engage
with stakeholders and public, oversee design and implementation, deliver outreach
programs/materials/events, develop and monitor performance indicators, and prepare
reports/presentations
 Facilitate travel demand management (TDM), such as smart commute and other trip
reduction programs – to support both internal (Town employees) and broader
community / employer based organizations.
 Coordinate with public transit agencies on rider-ship promotional initiatives, and other
outreach programs
 Develop financial plans and budgets, such as annual 10-year capital plans for
infrastructures and promotional initiatives, annual operating budgets, Development
Charges background studies, grant/funding opportunities
 Support other transportation planning projects and studies as required; and performs
other duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Skills:
 Successful completion of a three year college diploma program in civil / transportation
engineering technology, environmental science, planning, communications, marketing,
public relations, public health, public administration, or equivalent approved combination
of education and experience.
 Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field of transportation planning,
environmental studies, marketing, etc.
 Familiarity with sustainable transportation matters in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton
Area context, such as the TDM initiatives, and emerging trends and developments in
these areas.
 Ability to work effectively as a project leader and/or a project team member.
 Ability to manage multiple projects with strong organization and planning skills.
 Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; Relates well to the public and has
demonstrated report writing / formal and informal presentation / facilitation skills, with
the ability to explain, clarify and persuade to gain approval and understanding.
 Creativity, resourcefulness and ability to independently carry out responsibilities with
minimal supervision.
